Tegan Behel is a novelist, screenwriter and designer based in Santa Barbara, California.
I’ve dragged myself across the arid deserts of worthiness for too long, collecting sand in my shoes, and beetles in my hair. Not realizing that a handful of words arranged on a page are the oasis I have been seeking. With every word I write I can sigh with relief. Another part of my soul has escaped the prison of my body. Oasis
I’ve dragged myself across the
arid deserts of worthiness for too long,
collecting sand in my shoes,
and beetles in my hair.
Not realizing that a handful of words
arranged on a page
are the oasis I have been seeking.
With every word I write
I can sigh with relief.
Another part of my soul
has escaped the prison of my body.

Seaweed Cursive
If I could give you one gift it would be
the easy command of words.
I’d ask for them to roll from your mouth
like a tide rolls in to shore
regardless, sometimes to spite,
the boats bobbing on its mass,
the sand resisting its insistence.
I’d request your pen flow
with ease on its page
depositing eloquent affluvium,
gorgeous flotsam,
stories in seaweed cursive.
I’d ask this so
the barnacles and mussels
Lining your insides
Might be scraped away
And make your heart feel seen.
